BATLEY PERVERT BILAL AKALWAYA ESCAPES PRISON AFTER HORRIFIC CHILD AND ANIMAL ABUSE SCANDAL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Batley, 51-year-old Bilal Akalwaya has been found guilty of a series of heinous crimes involving the abuse of a friend's dog and the possession of extremely disturbing images depicting child abuse and bestiality. Despite the severity of his offences, Akalwaya has avoided immediate imprisonment, receiving a suspended sentence instead.According to court proceedings at Leeds Crown Court, the investigation into Akalwaya's activities began after police executed a warrant at his residence on Hyrstlands Road in Batley on May 14, 2019. During the search, officers seized two mobile phones, which later revealed a horrifying collection of illegal material. Analysis of these devices uncovered a total of 81 Category A images—classified as the most severe—along with 236 Category B and 266 Category C images. The material included extreme pornography and images involving children as young as three years old, with some depicting children being raped. The youngest victims in these images were just three years old, and the images extended up to teenagers aged 16 or 17.
Prosecutor Jade Edwards detailed that Akalwaya was involved in a WhatsApp group chat with other paedophiles, where he openly expressed interest in indecent images of children. Court records also revealed a deeply disturbing incident where Akalwaya encouraged a dog to penetrate him and engaged in sexual activity with the animal at his home. This particular act was captured in a moving image, which he shared within the group chat.
Further investigations in February 2021, prompted by concerns over his health, led officers to arrest Akalwaya again. During this subsequent search, five additional devices were recovered and examined. These devices contained more indecent images of children, including those at Category A, B, and C levels, as well as material depicting bestiality. The analysis showed that Akalwaya had accessed this material over a period spanning from May 18, 2014, to February 4, 2021. He admitted to engaging in sexual acts with a dog, specifically a friend's pet, and confessed to possessing extreme pornography and indecent images of children.
At his sentencing hearing, Akalwaya pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including sexual activity with an animal, possession of extreme pornography, and possession of indecent images of children. His Honour Judge Tom Bayliss sentenced him to eight months in prison, suspended for a year. Additionally, Akalwaya was placed under a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which requires him to notify police of any change of address for the next decade. The court also mandated that he complete 30 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at addressing his offending behavior.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and animal abuse, and the disturbing extent of some offenders' activities within the community of Batley.
