BIDHYA DAS SHOCKS FINSBURY PARK WITH HORRIFIC ATTACK ON TODDLERS
In a disturbing incident that has shocked the Finsbury Park community in north London, Bidhya Sagar Das, aged 33, has admitted to the brutal killing of his one-year-old son and an attempt to murder another young child. The attack took place on the evening of Saturday, March 18, at a flat located near Finsbury Park, where the tragic events unfolded.According to reports, Das launched a violent assault on two toddlers within the confines of the residence. The first victim, Gabriel Bibekdas Sonu, was fatally injured during the attack and succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of the following morning. The cause of death was confirmed through a post-mortem examination, which identified blunt force trauma as the primary cause.
The second child, a young girl who was also present at the scene, sustained serious injuries and was left fighting for her life. Her identity remains protected for legal reasons, but her condition was described as critical following the assault.
Das, who resides in Finsbury Park, was initially scheduled to stand trial next month on charges of murder and attempted murder. However, during a brief court hearing, he entered a plea of guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility for Gabriel's death, as well as to the attempted murder of the other young child. The plea was accepted by the prosecution, which considered psychiatric reports indicating mental health issues.
At the hearing, Das was assisted by a Bengali interpreter, ensuring clear communication during the proceedings. The court adjourned sentencing until October 12, to allow for further assessments and consideration of appropriate punishment.
Mr. Justice Spencer outlined the possible sentencing options, which include a discretionary life sentence, a hospital order with indefinite restrictions, or a combination of measures tailored to the defendant's mental health needs. The case remains ongoing as authorities determine the most suitable course of action in light of the evidence and psychiatric evaluations.
