OFFENDER JAILED FOR SEXUAL ACTIVITY WITH UNDERAGE GIRL AND ABUSE
A man identified as Benjamin Lewis has been convicted in connection with underage sexual activity and related crimes.According to court reports, Lewis, aged 28, was residing in the Kyle of Lochalsh area when he engaged in a sexual relationship with a girl over 13 but under 16.
The court heard that Lewis ignored warnings from the girl’s father, who gave him a "friendly reminder" about her age, but Lewis continued his inappropriate behaviour.
The relationship began with messaging on social media in September 2019, and the girl confirmed that they spent significant time together, consuming drugs and alcohol obtained by Lewis, and engaging in sexual intercourse on a nightly basis.
During these encounters, Lewis was reported to have placed his hands around her neck and applied pressure.
Lewis and the girl had also made plans to "run away together," but when she failed to meet him, he ended the relationship.
Lewis admitted to charges of intercourse and sexual activity with a minor, though he was not charged with rape.
Despite the girl’s age, he also breached bail conditions by failing to appear at an earlier hearing.
Lewis appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court, where the judge ordered him to be placed on the sex offenders register with the length of registration to be decided at sentencing.
The court was told that Lewis was residing now in Maerdy, Wales, at the time of sentencing.
