TOWYN: MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL BATTERING AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OF WOMAN
A man named Ben Marshall, aged 34 and residing on Albion Street in Rochdale, has been convicted and sentenced for a brutal assault that included battering a woman and sexually assaulting her in Towyn.He was handed an extended prison sentence of eight years and three months, with an additional four years on license, at Caernarfon Crown Court on July 3.
Marshall previously admitted to charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, and assault by penetration.
Prosecutor Laura Knightly reported that Marshall, while drinking at a pub in Towyn on March 23, began making loud and unpleasant comments, then escalated his violence by pulling out clumps of the woman’s hair, punching her over 20 times, and sexually assaulting her forcefully, despite her pleas for him to stop.
The victim expressed that she has felt like a broken woman since the attack, suffering from sleeplessness, nightmares, panic attacks, and a sense of unsafety in her home.
Marshall, who has an extensive criminal history with 37 previous convictions and 89 offenses, was represented by Andrew Jebb, who stated that Marshall feels genuine remorse and has hopes and plans for the future post-release, despite struggles with alcoholism and drug use.
Judge Timothy Petts described the assault as prolonged, vicious, and frenzied, condemning the sexual assault as particularly disgusting.
Marshall is also required to register as a sex offender for life, and he must serve two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for parole.
