BEN LAMB JAILED IN WARWICKSHIRE FOR SHARING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES ON TWITTER
In July 2014, Ben Lamb, a 24-year-old resident of Broom near Alcester, was sentenced to prison after sharing disturbing images of children on Twitter in an attempt to make friends. Lamb, who had recently lost his job, admitted to downloading approximately 100 illicit images from a Russian website to a mobile phone and then posting a select few online under the username @123Lamby.His activities came to light when journalists from ITV News, who were monitoring online activity, alerted the police. A raid was carried out at his home on High Street, Broom, in November 2014, during which police seized various computer devices and his mobile phone. Investigators discovered multiple indecent images on his phone.
Lamb pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including possession of indecent images and movies, as well as sharing them. Prosecutor Ian Speed explained that during his arrest, Lamb was observed concealing a mobile phone within bedding. In an interview the day after his arrest, Lamb confirmed he possessed and had shared the images, claiming he downloaded them from a website he previously accessed for other offenses. He stated, “He wasn’t posting the images for sexual gratification and that he was looking for an adult male partner,” and added, “The images are disgusting and he was sharing them to make friends.”
Defending solicitor Robert Evans mentioned that Lamb had a prior conviction involving indecent images of children and described an incident where Lamb was nearly hit by a car while riding his bike. Evans also highlighted Lamb’s health condition, Scheuermann’s kyphosis, a spinal disorder that will result in a permanently hunched posture, for which Lamb is awaiting treatment involving steel rods.
Most of the images Lamb shared were of a less severe category. Despite his defense’s request for a community order, Recorder Kevin Hegarty QC sentenced Lamb to 16 months in prison. Additionally, Lamb was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years.
