BASIL YOUNG FROM BUCKFASTLEIGH CAUGHT WITH CHILD AND ANIMAL ABUSE IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Buckfastleigh, authorities uncovered a cache of highly disturbing images on the devices of local resident Basil Young. The 77-year-old man, residing on Old Totnes Road, was subjected to a police raid in October 2018, during which his electronic devices were seized for forensic analysis.Following a detailed investigation by experts, it was revealed that Young possessed a small number of images depicting children being subjected to sexual assault. These images were classified as serious abuse material, highlighting the gravity of the offenses. In addition to these, investigators discovered a significantly larger collection of photographs that depicted adults engaging in sexual acts with animals, including dogs and horses. This collection of extreme pornography added a further layer of depravity to the case.
Young, who was 77 at the time of his arrest, faced multiple charges in connection with these findings. He pleaded guilty to four counts of making or possessing indecent or prohibited images of children, as well as one count of possessing extreme pornography. His legal history also includes an admission of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor, which was addressed in a separate hearing last year. As part of his sentencing, magistrates ordered him to participate in the Horizon sex offender rehabilitation program.
At Exeter Crown Court, Judge David Evans imposed a new two-year community order on Young. Under this order, he is required to continue with the 31-session Horizon program and undertake an additional 50 days of rehabilitative activities aimed at addressing his offending behavior.
Prosecutor Mr. Robert Yates provided details of the case, stating that Young was arrested at his Buckfastleigh home on October 11, 2018. During the investigation, devices belonging to Young were examined, revealing six images depicting severe abuse of children by adults, five images in lesser categories, and one prohibited image of a child. The analysis also uncovered a large number of extreme pornographic images, further illustrating the extent of Young’s possession of illegal material. The case has raised serious concerns about the safety of children and the presence of disturbing content within the local community.
