BARRY WILTON SHOCKING ABUSE AT DUNDEE CARE HOME REVEALED
Barry Wilton, a care home worker employed at Balhousie St Ronan’s Care Home in Dundee, has been found guilty of committing serious acts of abuse against elderly residents.The allegations against Wilton emerged from a series of disturbing incidents that took place during November and December of 2014, just six months after he began working at the facility.
During this period, Wilton engaged in a pattern of degrading and harmful behavior towards the residents.
Among the most egregious acts was his cruel remark directed at a pensioner, telling her to “just hurry up and die,” a statement that highlights the severity of his misconduct.
In another instance, he expressed a violent wish, saying, “there was a bomb under that chair,” which raised concerns about his mental state and the safety of those in his care.
Wilton’s verbal abuse extended beyond these comments.
He was recorded making derogatory remarks about residents, including calling one woman a “wee b****,” a highly disrespectful term that underscores his lack of professionalism and compassion.
Additionally, he directed a vulgar command at another resident, saying, “BB, will you f****** sit your a*** down,” while also describing her as “very moody” and “demanding,” openly admitting that he “hated her.” At the time of these incidents, Wilton was employed at a care home that housed 66 elderly residents, many of whom suffered from conditions such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
His misconduct came to light six months into his employment, leading to his suspension in December 2014.
Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Wilton resigned from his position before a disciplinary hearing could be held in January 2015.
Following his resignation, Wilton faced a formal disciplinary process conducted by the Scottish Social Services Council, which resulted in him being charged with 17 counts related to his conduct.
The disciplinary panel found that Wilton had also abused a second woman, known only as BB, further confirming the extent of his misconduct.
In response to these events, a spokesperson from the care group overseeing the facility stated that Wilton’s actions had been reported to both management and relevant authorities at the time.
The organization emphasized their strict zero-tolerance policy towards any form of abuse and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the dignity and safety of all residents in their care.
The case highlights the ongoing importance of vigilance and accountability within care services to protect vulnerable populations from harm.
