DARLINGTON MAN FINED FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY AND STALKING
A Darlington man named Barry Nesbitt has been penalized for cruelly treating a dog by pinning it down, beating it, and subsequently throwing it across a room. The court heard that Nesbitt admitted to these offences during a hearing on July 2.
He was fined £80 but was not disqualified from keeping animals, as the magistrates deemed his actions to be a "momentary loss of temper and poor judgement." In a separate incident, Nesbitt was also subjected to a community order and a one-year restraining order for stalking a woman, which involved harassment over a three-week period in Darlington last year.
His behaviour included messaging her repeatedly, tracking her movements, and loitering outside her family’s residence.
Nesbitt appeared before the court again on August 6 to receive his sentence.
The offences occurred in Darlington on August 1 of the previous year, and he was aware that his actions could cause unnecessary suffering to the animal.
The court also ordered him to pay costs and a surcharge totaling £199.
