BARRY ABRAHAM PINNER TEACHER SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES AT NORTHWOOD SCHOOL
In April 2016, a former educator from Northwood faced legal consequences after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children. Barry Abraham, a resident of Gerard Gardens in Pinner, appeared before Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday, April 28, to answer charges related to six counts of creating indecent photographs or pseudo-images of minors.Abraham, aged 57, had previously worked as a teacher at St Martin's Preparatory School in Northwood, an institution that caters to children ranging from three to thirteen years old. His employment at the school ended before the charges were brought to light. The court heard that the offences occurred in 2013, during his tenure at the school, although police confirmed that the images did not involve any pupils from the institution.
During the hearing, Abraham pleaded guilty to the charges at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on March 30. The court subsequently sentenced him to 16 months in prison. However, in a decision that drew some relief, the judge suspended the sentence for two years, meaning Abraham will not serve time in jail unless he commits another offence within that period. Additionally, he is mandated to participate in a 12-month sex offender treatment program as part of his rehabilitation.
Authorities emphasized that the charges were not connected to any students at Northwood's St Martin's Preparatory School, alleviating concerns about direct victimization within the school community. The case highlights ongoing efforts to address and prevent the distribution and creation of inappropriate material involving minors, even when the offenders are no longer active in their professional roles.
