ST JOHN'S WOOD TYCOON BARON BLOOM JAILED FOR ASSAULT ON TEENAGE GIRL IN LONDON
In a case that has shocked the local community of St John’s Wood and the wider London area, Baron Bloom, a 28-year-old property developer known for his wealth and status, has been sentenced to a year in prison for the indecent assault of a 15-year-old girl. The incident, which took place in September 2001, has brought to light disturbing allegations against the affluent businessman.According to court proceedings, Bloom, who resides in the upscale neighborhood of St John’s Wood in north-west London, exploited his social standing and financial influence to take advantage of the young girl. The girl, who was only 15 at the time, recounted that she and her 14-year-old friend had been at a nightclub in Mayfair, where Bloom and his companions were also present. After consuming champagne and socializing, the girls were taken to Bloom’s flat because it was too late to return home.
During the trial, the girl described how Bloom fondled her while she was lying in a double bed with him, his friend, and her younger companion. She explained that she repeatedly tried to push his hand away and told him to stop, but he persisted. The girl also revealed that she had taken her friend to the hospital after she collapsed from drinking too much alcohol, which was part of the night’s events.
The victim further stated that she informed her mother about the incident, who responded by placing a note under Bloom’s door warning him that she would contact the police if he tried to contact her again. Despite denying the assault, Bloom was found guilty by a jury following a trial held in December. The judge, Recorder Stephen Kramer QC, condemned Bloom’s actions, stating, “Instead of giving her sanctuary, you indecently assaulted her in a predatory way.”
In a subsequent retrial concerning the allegation of indecent assault on the 14-year-old girl, Bloom was cleared of those charges. He claimed to the court that he believed the girl was an older teenager, which was part of his defense.
As part of his sentence, the court ordered Bloom’s name to be entered onto the sex offender register for a period of ten years. The judge emphasized the importance of protecting underage girls, asserting, “Under-age girls must be protected by these courts.” The case has underscored the ongoing concerns about the conduct of wealthy individuals and the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation and abuse in London.
