BANCROFT GRANT FROM LEWISHAM AND PECKHAM SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Lewisham and Peckham, Bancroft Grant, a 62-year-old coach driver, has been sentenced to four years in prison following his conviction for multiple sexual offenses involving a young girl. The incidents took place over a period spanning from December 2000 to January 2002, during which Grant subjected the girl to a series of disturbing sexual assaults.Grant, who resides on the Glebe Estate in Peckham, was accused of sexually abusing the girl at various locations, including his own residence, her family home in Lewisham, and during his duties as a coach driver. The young victim, now aged 12, endured a traumatic ordeal that left her in constant fear, especially after Grant threatened her with violence, explicitly warning her that he would cut off her hand if she ever disclosed the abuse.
The court proceedings revealed that Grant vehemently denied the allegations, attempting to dismiss the accusations as false. However, the evidence presented was compelling enough for the jury to find him guilty of five charges of indecent assault. The judge, Diva Pillay, presided over the case at Blackfriars Crown Court and did not hold back in her sentencing.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Pillay ordered Bancroft Grant to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the importance of community safety. The case has left a lasting impact on the victims and has raised concerns about safeguarding children from predators within the community.
