GREAT HARWOOD FIREFIGHTER CHARGED WITH CHILD RAPE AND FIREARMS OFFENCES
A retained firefighter from Great Harwood, Azar Khan, aged 39, has been charged with multiple serious sexual offences against a child, possessing firearms, and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.According to reports, Khan was first arrested on December 29 in connection with allegations involving a female victim.
During his arrest at his residence on Windsor Road, police discovered a stun gun and pepper spray, suspected to have been purchased in America, which are illegal firearms in the UK.
Khan was subsequently bailed pending further inquiries but was re-arrested and formally charged on the following Wednesday.
The charges include three counts of the oral rape of a child, three counts of sexual assault on a child, three counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, two counts of possessing firearms, and one count of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
The conspiracy charge pertains to alleged attempts between January 10 and January 25 to intimidate a potential witness into changing a statement.
Khan, who is also a team leader at a satellite company in Accrington, has been suspended from his role with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.
