A teacher from Ayrshire who was convicted of sexually assaulting a female student on school premises has narrowly avoided imprisonment.Asif Rafiq, aged 48, lost his position as a technological studies instructor after the incident occurred in February of the previous year.
Following a trial held at Ayr Sheriff Court in April, Rafiq was found guilty of the sexual assault charges.
In a recent court hearing, he was sentenced to a Community Payback Order (CPO), which mandates 18 months of supervision along with 200 hours of unpaid community service.
During this period, any employment or voluntary work he undertakes must be approved by his supervising officer.
Additionally, Rafiq has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register, marking a significant restriction on his activities and movements.
The court proceedings revealed disturbing details of Rafiq’s misconduct.
It was established that he had placed his arms around the female pupil, touched her buttocks, squeezed her, and kissed her on the face on multiple occasions.
