OFFENDER JAILED FOR TEENAGE GIRLFRIEND'S MURDER IN ROTHERHAM
The individual behind Laura Wilson’s murder is Ashtiaq Asghar, who was sentenced last December to a minimum of 17 and a half years after admitting guilt. He was involved romantically with Laura, who had a four-month-old daughter with his friend Ishaq Hussain.
He murdered Laura just days after she disclosed her relationship with both men.
During the case, Lord Justice Davis stated his belief that Asghar perceived white girls as 'sexual targets' rather than as human beings.
He lured Laura to a spot near the canal beside Meadowhall Shopping Centre and attacked her with a knife, stabbing her multiple times in the head.
Despite her injuries, she was still alive when left in the water.
The investigation revealed that Laura’s life was marked by significant difficulties, and there were numerous missed chances for social services to step in.
A report found her care to be lacking and noted she had been largely unnoticed by some services, which failed to see her vulnerability.
Her death underscored systemic failures in protective measures, with authorities acknowledging that her needs were not adequately addressed.
Asghar’s sentence underscores the severity of his crime, and he is expected to serve at least 17.5 years in prison.
