BIRMINGHAM MAN ASHLEY MCDOWELL JAILED FOR MULTIPLE SEX OFFENCES
A man from Birmingham has received an eight-year prison sentence after being convicted at Bristol Crown Court on multiple sexual offence charges.Ashley McDowell, aged 39 and residing in Shard End, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a young woman in her late teens in 2013, as well as engaging in sexual activity with a teenage girl in 2019.
He was also convicted of attempting to persuade a teenage girl into sexual exploitation.
The case came to light after police linked McDowell to the 2013 assault through evidence collected during an investigation into sexual offences against two teenagers.
This evidence included messages in which McDowell offered money in exchange for sex and promised to buy trainers and alcohol for a 16-year-old girl.
During the court proceedings, jurors heard that DNA belonging to McDowell was discovered on clothing of a girl found unconscious in his bed.
The court also heard that he had offered items like trainers and alcohol in exchange for sex.
McDowell admitted to the charges and defended himself during the trial.
Det Sgt Harriet Drewett of the police force noted that McDowell is a predator who has exploited vulnerable women and girls over many years.
The lengthy investigation culminated in the sentencing, underscoring ongoing efforts by law enforcement to hold sexual offenders accountable.
