MIDDLESBROUGH MAN ASHLEY HINDE SENTENCED FOR DOG ABUSE AND NEGLECT
Hinde was banned from keeping animals for 15 years following an investigation and prosecution by the RSPCA.He was prosecuted in relation to six dogs, including four puppies found living in their own faeces in a crate devoid of food or water.
RSPCA officers went to Hinde’s house on August 27, 2024, after concerns had been raised about the welfare of dogs living there.
They found two adult Staffy-type crossbreed dogs named Gypsy and Quinn who were shut in a small bathroom together with no food or water available.
The dogs appeared underweight with visible ribs and fur loss.
Hinde admitted to having recently beaten Gypsy and Quinn by kicking and punching them on multiple occasions because he was struggling with his mental health and felt "nothing but hatred" towards them.
He showed the officers a crate with four puppies inside, all in their own faeces in a cage without a tray, and stated he wanted to sign over two of the puppies and both adult dogs into the RSPCA’s care but wanted to keep one puppy himself, promising another to a friend in five weeks.
An examination confirmed the dogs were emaciated with fleas and fur loss caused by physical abuse and neglect for over a month.
All dogs were initially cared for at private boarding facilities; Gypsy and Quinn recovered and were rehomed.
The puppies were also adopted.
Hinde was sentenced to a 26-week suspended prison sentence for two years, 20 days of rehabilitation, 120 unpaid work hours, with costs and surcharges, and a 15-year ban that expires in October 2040.
