MIDDLESBROUGH MAN JAILED FOR DOG ABUSE AND NEGLECT
A Middlesbrough man who beat and neglected two emaciated Staffordshire Bull Terriers admitted he felt “nothing but hatred towards them".Ashleigh Hinde, 22, of South Court in South Bank, was also banned from keeping animals for 15 years following an investigation and prosecution by the RSPCA.
Four female puppies, offspring of one of the dogs, were found lying in their faeces in a crate without food or water.
Hinde pleaded guilty to two offences contrary to the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and was sentenced at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, September 23.
The court heard that RSPCA officers visited Hinde’s house on August 27 last year after animal welfare concerns were raised.
They found Gypsy and Quinn, two adult Staffordshire Bull Terrier type crossbreed dogs, shut in a small bathroom with no food or water.
Gypsy and Quinn appeared underweight with visible ribs and fur loss.
The officer Shane Lynn reported that inside a dog crate covered by a blanket, four puppies were found in their own faeces with no food or water.
The living room was untidy, with rubbish bags, clothes on the floor, and minimal space to move.
Gypsy was the mother of the puppies, and Quinn was her sister.
Hinde wanted to sign over the dogs and two puppies to the RSPCA but wished to keep one puppy himself and had promised another to a friend.
He admitted to recently beating Gypsy and Quinn by kicking and punching because he was struggling with his mental health and felt “nothing but hatred towards them”.
Hinde received a 26-week suspended prison sentence for two years, with orders for 20 days of Rehabilitation Activity and 120 hours of unpaid work, along with costs of £300 and a £154 victim surcharge.
An RSPCA inspector commented on the distressing condition of the animals and the failure to provide appropriate care.
