ROTHERHAM MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER POSSESSING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A Rotherham sex offender named Ashley Fryer, aged 26, was found with images depicting the sexual abuse of children as young as two years old.Fryer was arrested at his residence on Hill Top Road in May 2021 by officers who seized three devices, including a computer and an iPhone.
Forensic analysis uncovered indecent images and videos that ranged from category A to C, with a total of 63 accessible images.
During police interviews, Fryer expressed remorse, stating, 'I feel like such a f****** creep, I have just been a f****** idiot, I don't even like it like that, it's disgusting,' in his first interview on 8th June 2023.
He also explained that he had been sent images from others via downloads onto his devices.
When questioned in his second interview on 21st November 2023, Fryer answered 'no comment.' He pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.
The court was told that Fryer has ADHD and a learning disability and was regarded as a vulnerable individual.
Despite this, the judge, Her Honour Judge Rachael Harrison, stated that the nature of the images—some as young as two years old—could not be justified by Fryer's disabilities.
The court recognized the delay in prosecution and Fryer's individual circumstances.
The judge sentenced Fryer to a community order, warning him that he narrowly avoided prison.
Fryer was ordered to complete 40 days of rehabilitation activities, the Horizon programme, and 100 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, he was placed under a sexual harm prevention order.
The judge also acknowledged that Fryer’s parents had imposed controls to restrict his access to such material, and emphasized that Fryer must understand his responsibility in preventing child abuse, regardless of his vulnerabilities.
