CAMBRIDGE MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING AND ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR
A 41-year-old man named Ashley Baker from Wood Street, Doddington, was found guilty of controlling conduct and domestic violence. His partner endured years of verbal and physical assaults, including episodes where he became angry if he suspected others were looking at her.
He pressured her to call him during lunch breaks, restricted her from using certain facilities like the canteen, and questioned her about her social interactions.
At one point in their home, he shattered a coffee table during a temper and pushed her against a wall by her throat.
Baker also insisted she wear vest tops beneath her clothing to hide her chest, made her draw the blinds during exercise, and falsely accused her of misconduct to cut her off from friends and family.
Over a period of seven years, he maintained control over every aspect of her life, regularly shouting and assaulting her physically.
The victim’s son recorded one of these abusive incidents as evidence for law enforcement.
Baker pleaded guilty to controlling behavior and was sentenced on May 10 at Cambridge Crown Court to two years and three months in prison.
Detective Rachael Copeland, who handled the investigation, commented, 'Baker’s lengthy campaign of control and abuse deprived his partner of her social ties and happiness.
I am satisfied that justice has been served and commend her bravery in speaking out.' The article also offers information on support resources and how to report domestic abuse, including details about Clare's Law.
