MURDERER ARTUR PARYS JAILED FOR LIFE FOR FATALLY STABBING EX-GIRLFRIEND IN TAUNTON
A Polish man convicted of murdering his former girlfriend in a fit of jealousy had a history of violence, including an earlier attempt to kill another partner and suspicion of his wife’s murder, a court was told.Artur Parys, aged 44, assaulted Justyna Miszczyk, 37, by smashing a bottle over her head, then punching and strangling her at his residence in Compton Close, Taunton.
He is required to serve a minimum of 13 years behind bars after pleading guilty to murder at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday.
The relationship between Parys and Justyna began after they met on the Polish social media platform similar to Facebook and she moved into his home in Taunton, where they both worked at the business known as the Ministry of Cake.
However, their relationship ended in September following allegations of violence made by Justyna, leading Parys to relocate to a flat in Compton Close the previous August.
On September 27, after a day out with her new boyfriend, Justyna visited Parys’ address.
Concerned neighbors reported hearing screams and called the police, but officers left when no one responded.
Parys, who had been drinking, then fled to London.
The next day, his landlords found Justyna’s body when they returned from holiday.
When arrested at a hotel, Parys claimed to police that he had planned to take his own life.
Prosecutors state that Parys suggested he lost his temper when Justyna mocked him after he proposed getting back together, though he insisted he did not intend to kill her.
Defendant’s lawyer, Richard Smith, told the court that Parys felt remorse over his actions.
It was also revealed during the trial that Parys had previously served an eight-year sentence in Poland for stabbing Jolanta Chmielewska, with whom he had lived for six months, and that he is wanted by Swiss authorities in connection with his wife’s death in 2001.
