ARRON THOMPSON FROM ANFIELD SENTENCED FOR DOG ABANDONMENT IN TUEBROOK

Arron Andrew Thompson, born on July 30, 1986, and residing at 48 September Road in Anfield, Liverpool L6 4AZ, has been found guilty of neglecting and abandoning his pet dog, Wilson, leading to the animal's tragic death. The incident unfolded at Thompson’s former residence located in Truebrook, where Wilson was left to suffer without access to food or water.

In November 2023, a housing association worker discovered Wilson’s decomposing body inside the abandoned property on Grange Street in Tuebrook. The dog’s body was notably bloated, covered in fleas, and had been wrapped in a blanket before being placed inside a box in the lounge area of the house. The scene was a heartbreaking testament to neglect, with the dog having endured prolonged suffering.

Following the discovery, authorities launched an investigation, and on January 26, 2024, RSPCA Inspector Nadine Pengilly tracked down Thompson. During a phone interview, Thompson confirmed that Wilson was indeed his dog. He explained that he often worked away from home for periods of three to four months and claimed that a friend had been visiting his property to look after Wilson during his absences.

Veterinary experts examined Wilson’s remains and provided a detailed report. The veterinarian stated, “Wilson’s body had slowly shut down, and although a post-mortem was not conducted, it is highly probable that the lack of access to food and water contributed significantly to his death. It is unclear whether water was provided at any point, but it is likely that the dog went without both food and water for at least two weeks, possibly longer.”

Thompson failed to appear at the court hearing, and as a result, he was convicted in his absence. The court sentenced him to a 21-week prison term, which was suspended for 12 months. Additionally, he was given a community order that includes 15 days of rehabilitation, a victim surcharge of £154, and a ten-year ban from owning animals, which will expire in February 2035.
