BOXING COACH ALLOWED TO CONTINUE COACHING AFTER BEING CONVICTED OF STALKING AND THREATENING EX-WIFE
A Rutherglen boxing coach with a criminal past has been permitted to continue coaching youngsters despite a conviction for stalking and threatening his former wife.Archie Durie, aged 55, was convicted of harassing his ex-partner over a span of five months starting in 2015.
He was found guilty of sending threatening and abusive messages to Laura Durie between February 1 and March 31 of the previous year.
Additionally, he was caught sitting outside her flat in a car and sending messages indicating he was observing her.
Boxing Scotland, the national governing body, chose not to disclose specifics regarding their investigation into Mr.
Durie.
Despite this, the coach, who operates Durie’s Boxing Club at the John Hillhouse Industrial Estate, expressed satisfaction at being allowed to continue coaching.
He explained, “There were some doubts as to whether the season was going to start at all for myself, due to an unforeseen court case and conviction that almost destroyed the future of my boxing club.
“But, after an investigatory meeting with Boxing Scotland bosses where matters were discussed and mitigations put in from myself, it left the board happy enough to let me carry on coaching with no restrictions for myself or the club and to start our club’s busy start to the season.” The court also found Mr.
Durie guilty of multiple incidents that caused Ms.
Durie to feel fear and distress, occurring between October 1, 2015, and March 7, 2016.
Furthermore, he was convicted of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at Katrina’s Cafe in Rutherglen’s Ballochmill Road on July 5 of last year.
