VERWOOD MAN SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF PREGNANT WOMAN
According to court proceedings on Friday, a woman was strangled by her former partner, who had a known history of attacking women.Antony Rose, 40, from Whiteheart Gardens, admitted to manslaughter of 25-year-old Jenny Craigdaillie, who died at her Verwood home on April 8 of the previous year.
The court heard that Rose had previously assaulted Jenny and his ex-wife, including an incident while he was out on bail for manslaughter charges.
Judge Guy Boney QC sentenced Rose to six years imprisonment.
The attack on Jenny caused her to faint and hit her head; although she temporarily regained consciousness, she later developed a brain hemorrhage because of her rare hemophilia.
She required surgical intervention but never regained consciousness and died approximately a month later.
The judge highlighted Rose’s awareness of her medical vulnerability.
Her parents, Maggie and David Craigdaillie, mourned her as a wonderfully kind, intelligent, and talented young woman whose life was cut short by Rose’s brutal and cowardly assault.
An autopsy confirmed she was pregnant at the time of her death.
Prosecutor Jane Miller QC described how Rose’s two-year abusive relationship with Jenny became violent, including an episode where he pulled her hair so violently that she hit her head.
After separating, Rose continued to threaten her via text messages and physically attacked her when she attempted eviction.
Her parents paid a heartfelt tribute to Jenny’s personality, describing her as beloved, intelligent, and artistically gifted.
