VICTIM'S FRIEND SUSPECTS MORE ABUSED BY ESSEX PAEDOPHILE
Paedophile Anthony Singleton, who abused a child in the 1970s whilst living on Canvey Island, was jailed at Basildon Crown Court <i>(Image: Supplied)</i>.Singleton, 84, pleaded guilty to two counts of indecency with a child and one charge of gross indecency.
The victim contacted police in 2017 and recounted years of abuse.
His defence questioned his fitness to stand trial due to dementia, but psychiatrists in 2024 and 2025 believed he was faking or exaggerating his condition.
After being deemed fit, Singleton struck a plea deal, denying the most serious charges, but still received a 67-week prison sentence.
A friend of the victim expressed relief that Singleton was imprisoned, emphasizing no child should be subjected to such abuse.
Her friend suspects there could be other victims and urged others to come forward and contact the police.
