ELDERLY MAN ACCUSED OF HISTORIC SEXUAL CRIMES DIES BEFORE COURT APPEARANCE
An elderly man suspected of serious sexual offenses will not stand trial as he has passed away.Anthony Patrick Nigel Freethy, aged 91 and residing at The Coombe, was scheduled to appear before Truro Magistrates' Court to answer to multiple historical allegations dating back several decades.
Known as Pat, Freethy was charged with four counts of indecent assault involving a girl under 14 and another girl under 16, covering periods from January 1973 to February 1977, March 1978 to February 1980, November 1976 to November 1977, and December 1981 to January 1983.
Additionally, he faced a single charge of attempted rape of a woman aged 16 or older, alleged to have occurred between December 1985 and January 1987.
He was due in court on May 12, but has recently died.
His funeral took place at Treswithian Downs Crematorium in Camborne on Friday, May 1.
The court case has not yet been formally dismissed.
One of the alleged victims expressed frustration, stating she felt angry because "no-one will know what he was so he really has got away with it," adding that "what really killed him was guilt."
