ANTHONY MASTERS FROM CHIPPENHAM ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE CHILD ABUSE IMAGE CHARGES
A prominent statistician from Chippenham has narrowly avoided imprisonment after being found in possession of child abuse images. Dr. Anthony Masters, who is well-known within the statistical community, appeared before Swindon Crown Court last year to face serious allegations related to child exploitation.During the court proceedings, Masters pleaded guilty to three counts of creating indecent images of children. The images in question included four Category A photographs, which depict the most severe form of child sexual abuse involving penetrative acts. These images are classified as the most serious under the child exploitation image categories.
In addition to the Category A images, Masters also admitted to possessing two Category B images and six Category C images. The B and C categories represent decreasing levels of severity, but all are considered illegal and deeply disturbing.
Despite his conviction on charges related to child abuse images, Anthony Masters remains listed as an ambassador for the Royal Statistical Society, a notable professional organization. This has raised questions about the oversight and ethical considerations surrounding his continued association with the society.
Beyond his professional life, Masters is also known for co-authoring the book titled 'Covid by Numbers,' which aimed to dispel common misconceptions about the coronavirus and the vaccines. The book was intended to provide clarity and factual information during the pandemic.
36-year-old Masters, residing on Tavinor Drive in Chippenham, was sentenced to a 12-month community order. As part of his sentence, he is required to complete 150 hours of unpaid community service. Furthermore, he must participate in 30 days of rehabilitation activities organized by the probation service and is mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of five years.
Additionally, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order has been imposed, which will remain in effect for five years. This order is designed to restrict Masters' activities and monitor his behavior to prevent any further harm. The case has sparked widespread concern given his professional standing and the serious nature of the crimes involved.
