ANTHONY LAWTON SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS IN PRISON FOR MANSLAUGHTER IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
A 47-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent, Anthony Lawton, has received a nine-year prison sentence for manslaughter in connection with the death of his partner, Kerry Ann Day. The tragic incident occurred following a period of domestic abuse within their tumultuous relationship, which was marked by violence and alcohol-related disputes. Kerry Ann Day, who was 41 years old, was discovered with a stab wound to her chest at her residence on Astbury Court, Westport Road, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, on 25 April 2010. Although Lawton was initially cleared of murder on 10 March, he had previously admitted to the lesser charge of manslaughter and was ultimately sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court. Detective Chief Inspector Guy Titchener of Staffordshire Police described their relationship as "volatile," highlighting the domestic abuse history. He stated that on the day of the fatal injury, both individuals had been drinking, which contributed to an escalation of their argument, resulting in Lawton stabbing Ms. Day. His conviction and subsequent sentencing underscore the devastating outcomes of persistent domestic violence, culminating in a deadly act that has left a lasting impact on the community and the families involved.
