PERVERT AVOIDS JAIL AFTER 'APPALLING' ONLINE CHAT ABOUT SEXUAL ABUSE OF FIVE-MONTH-OLD BABY
A man has avoided an imediate jail sentence after he discussed the sexual abuse of a five-month-old baby online.Ronald Lovatt was unaware that he was speaking to a decoy set up by the National Crime Agency.
They alerted Staffordshire Police who turned up at the 68-year-old's home in Burslem, Staffordshire, in March 2024.
They found Lovatt in possession of four category A indecent images which showed children aged one to six being sexually abused by adults.
Lovatt was arrested and later pleaded guilty to attempting to publish an obscene article and making indecent images of children.
He was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for 18 months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
The judge believes the public is best served by him engaging with the probation service.

During the chat, the defendant became involved in an 'appalling narrative about sexual abuse of a five-month-old child'.
Police visited his home on March 20 and found child sex abuse images of children aged one to six being sexually abused by adults on a device.
Lovatt, of High Lane, Burslem, had a conviction for possessing an extreme pornographic image in 2023, the court heard.
Barry White, mitigating, said: "He is having a lot of difficulties from friends and family.
It is all his own fault.
He understands that.
He understands they are real victims.
He is very apologetic for what he has done.
This dates back to 2023/2024.
Around that time he delved into this murky world.
He no longer goes into chat rooms.
He is extremely embarrassed about what happened.
He has a good work ethic.
He found himself in his retired years entering into a world he should have stayed very far away from." As part of the suspended sentence order, Lovatt must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement for up to 45 days.
Judge Richard McConaghy said: "In March 2024 you were caught attempting to publish an obscene article.
What you were writing was an appalling narrative about sexual abuse of a five-month-old child.
You were in possession of category A indecent images of children.
In the pre-sentence report you showed no remorse whatsoever for what you have done.
You continue to deny having committed the offences.
I am told you are remorseful but I have detected no hint of that.
A community order was imposed in March 2023 for possession of an extreme pornographic image.
"The attitude that you have displayed to this type of offending and your approach to these proceedings is of real and significant concern.
It seems to me that you have a very troubling thought process indeed.
The community is best served in your case by your engagement with the probation service."
