ANTHONY HERATY BUSTED IN BURSLEM AND HANDFORTH: SHOCKING SEXUAL MISCONDUCT WITH 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Burslem and Handforth, Anthony Heraty, aged 37, has been found guilty of engaging in highly inappropriate and illegal sexual communication with a minor. The incident came to light after Heraty, who was originally residing in Burslem before moving to Windermere Road, Handforth, Cheshire, initiated contact with a 14-year-old girl via social media platform Snapchat.According to court records and prosecuting attorney Paul Spratt, Heraty began his online interactions with the young girl on September 28, 2018. Despite knowing her age, he proceeded to communicate with her in a manner that was explicitly sexual in nature. The messages included invasive questions about her virginity and her experiences with oral sex, revealing a disturbing level of predatory intent.
The defendant also sent graphic images to the teenager, including a photograph of his erect penis and a naked picture of his private parts, which further exemplified his inappropriate behavior. The young girl, understandably distressed by the messages, confided in her mother immediately after discovering the content.
Heraty later admitted to police that he was under the influence of both alcohol and drugs at the time of the exchanges. He claimed to have believed the girl was older than her actual age but acknowledged that he was aware she was a minor. His actions have now led to serious legal consequences.
At Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, Heraty pleaded guilty to charges of engaging in sexual communication with a child. The court sentenced him to eight months in prison, suspended for 18 months, meaning he will not serve time unless he breaches the terms of his probation.
As part of his sentence, Heraty is required to complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement, participate in a sex offender treatment program, and perform 160 hours of unpaid community work. Additionally, Judge Paul Glenn ordered Heraty to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and imposed a ban on him engaging in activities involving children and vulnerable adults.
The court also ordered Heraty to pay costs amounting to £400. The judge emphasized the gravity of his misconduct, stating, “You met the child through Snapchat. You exchanged messages. You knew her age. Initially, there was no inappropriate contact. But on September 28, 2018, you sent a number of messages which were utterly disgusting. You questioned her about her virginity. You questioned her about oral sex. You spoke of having sex the previous week in vulgar terms. You sent her pictures of your own penis, including a naked picture.”
This case highlights the dangers of online interactions and the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation and abuse. The communities of Burslem and Handforth are now reminded of the ongoing need for vigilance and protective measures against such predatory behavior.
