In a disturbing incident that unfolded in broad daylight in Speke, Anthony Gallagher, aged 34, caused widespread alarm when he engaged in highly inappropriate behavior near a local primary school. The events took place on June 24 this year, when Gallagher was seen walking along Alderwood Avenue, only wearing a pair of trainers and socks, with no clothes covering his body. A woman passing by noticed him as he headed towards Middlefield Primary School around 1:30 pm, prompting immediate concern.

According to court reports, children of key workers were playing on the school’s playground at the time, and it was fortunate that the staff were alerted quickly. Judge Menary pointed out that Gallagher was heavily under the influence of drugs at the time. While Gallagher claimed in his pre-sentence report that he was unsure whether he was actually masturbating, the court found the evidence compelling that he was indeed engaging in such conduct. The judge noted that involuntary limb movements caused by drugs typically do not resemble deliberate actions like masturbation, indicating a level of awareness and intent.

Considering Gallagher’s chaotic criminal record and the nature of the offense—committed in broad daylight near a school—the judge concluded that only a custodial sentence was appropriate. He sentenced Gallagher to five months in prison, emphasizing the need to protect the community from such indecent activity in public spaces.
