2006: JUNKIE JAILED FOR ASSAULT ON OAP
A WORDSLEY heroin addict who violently robbed a pensioner in Brierley Hill has been jailed for three years.Anthony Fox, aged 26, of Bells Lane, left 78-year-old Dorothy Mellor battered and bruised when he robbed her of her shopping bag.
Fox pounced as the pensioner was walking in Moor Street and grabbed her bag as he rode past on a bicycle.
The plucky pensioner hung on to her bag and was dragged for a distance along the pavement by Fox before she let go when he swung a kick in her direction.
Mark Phillips prosecuting, said: "Mrs Mellor suffered abrasions and bruising to her knees and elbows as a result of being dragged." On Wednesday November 22, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard Fox was seen to go into the derelict Forresters Arms by a witness to the robbery and the police were notified.
Fox was then arrested and the bag recovered after a police officer went into the pub with his dog.
Judge Frank Chapman, said: "You committed a very unpleasant offence against an elderly lady and you used violence." Fox, who admitted robbing the pensioner, had previous convictions including affray, assault and wounding.
Christopher Gorman, defending, told the court Fox had not targeted the woman because of her age.
Mr Gorman said: "He saw the shopping bag and it was only afterwards he saw she was elderly."
