A paedophile who sexually abused a young girl over a period of seven years, from when she was seven years old, has been sentenced to jail.
Anthony Baron, aged 68, residing on Main Street in Gisburn, began abusing the girl in 2006.
Following the conviction for eight counts of sexual abuse of a minor, Baron was sentenced to seven years imprisonment at Burnley Crown Court on a Monday.
Police spokesman Det Con Ryan Benson expressed that Baron’s actions have deprived his young victim of her childhood and praised her bravery in coming forward.
Benson stated, "Through his perverted actions, he [Baron] has effectively robbed her of her childhood.
And yet, she has had the courage, not only to come forward and report what he did to her, but also the bravery to see the case through to its rightful outcome." He also added, "I trust she feels some sense that justice has been done." Police and community leaders hope this sentence will encourage others with similar experiences to report abuse, emphasizing that investigations will be handled professionally and compassionately.
