TEACHER BANNED FOR SEX WITH PUPIL
A former teacher who was removed from her profession after having a sexual encounter with a schoolboy at a drunken party has spoken out, revealing her sexual orientation as gay.Angela Dunning, aged 31, explained that she went into a bathroom with a 17-year-old student during a school-leavers' celebration and insisted her conduct was innocent, merely assisting the boy with a foot injury caused by broken glass.
She stated, "I did not engage in any sexual activity with anyone that night—male or female.
I am gay.
That was well known.
I had a partner at the time and was not interested in a 17-year-old boy." Although she denied any sexual involvement, she faced charges of inappropriate behavior that were eventually dropped.
The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) concluded that she had sex with the pupil, leading to the revocation of her teaching license four weeks prior.
The disciplinary panel labeled her "disgraceful and dishonourable" after the boy presented what was described as compelling evidence of their sexual encounter.
Dunning lamented, "It was basically his word against mine.
I thought the hearing would clear my name, but I feel like I was unfairly judged." She voiced her frustration over losing her career, emphasizing, "All I ever wanted was to be a teacher.
Now that chance is gone." During her probationary year at Braeview Academy, Dunning had recently ended her marriage following the revelation of her relationship with another woman.
She confirmed she attended a leaving party for students and a later gathering at a colleague’s house where the incident supposedly took place but maintains she did not partake in any sexual acts.
Additionally, the GTCS issued a reprimand to another teacher, Jessica Randall, for supplying alcohol to minors and being in a state of undress.
Randall and other staff members were present that night, yet Dunning feels she was unjustly targeted, as her actions were misunderstood amid circulating rumors.
