DUNDEE MAN ANDREW WHYTE GUILTY OF DAYLIGHT ROBBERY OF 12-YEAR-OLD BOY
A 44-year-old man robbed a 12-year-old boy in broad daylight in Dundee and made off with his football stickers and sweets stash.Andrew Whyte was caught on CCTV, dressed in all black and with his face covered, carrying out the attack in Douglas two summers ago.
Whyte punched the boy and took his bag, which contained confectionary and stickers.
A sheriff described the evidence against him as “overwhelming”.
Whyte is now awaiting sentencing and could face jail for the brazen crime.
He was found guilty of assault and robbery; he punched the boy on Balerno Street and stole his bag containing football stickers, mints, and a Cadbury Crunchie.
The victim’s mother and father testified at Dundee Sheriff Court, with the mother on the phone during the incident and the father later identifying Whyte in court and through video evidence.
The sheriff stated the evidence was conclusive, citing CCTV footage, clothing, and the bag found nearby.
Whyte was acquitted of possessing an extendable baton.
The sheriff warned him to prepare for a custodial sentence at sentencing.
