DONCASTER MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT HOME INVASIONS AND AXE ATTACK
A man from Doncaster has been sentenced to prison after committing several violent offences, including attacking a teenage boy inside his own home and invading a couple’s residence with an axe.Andrew Shaw, age 35, from Parklands Close, entered a property in Dunscroft forcibly by smashing a window on December 4, 2022.
Once inside, he demanded cash and assaulted a 15-year-old boy, who ended up with a black eye and had to hide in a cupboard until his mother returned.
She was able to chase Shaw away, during which he stole valuables worth around £3,000, including an iPhone and Swarovski jewelry.
The following day, Shaw, along with a co-accused armed with a knife, broke into a home in Rossington, where he demanded money and swung an axe at a man, resulting in a minor arm injury.
When the victim refused to hand over money, Shaw ordered his accomplice to stab him.
He also caused damage outside the property by smashing a kitchen window before fleeing in a silver VW Polo with cigarettes and tobacco.
Police responded after the car crashed into a fence; Shaw was then found hiding in an outbuilding.
He admitted to two counts of robbery and possession of a bladed weapon.
On August 16, he was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court to eleven and a half years’ imprisonment.
PC Sam Fowler, who led the investigation, stated: “Shaw’s violent actions caused considerable fear for a family and a young boy who should have felt secure at home.
His use of a dangerous weapon to attack a man defending his loved ones worsened the case.
We’re pleased with his long sentence and reaffirm our commitment to protecting communities.
This case underscores that such offences will be met with strong penalties, including prison time.”
