MAN KILLED EX AND NEW PARTNER AFTER RESEARCHING MURDER METHODS AND JAIL TERMS
Andrew Saunders, a 21-year-old man from Newport, was found guilty of brutally murdering his former girlfriend Zoe Morgan, 21, and her new partner Lee Simmons, 33, outside a Matalan store in Cardiff. The court heard that Saunders, driven by jealousy and controlling behavior, researched the easiest ways to kill, how long murderers serve in prison, and ways to avoid detection online.
Evidence showed he searched multiple disturbing topics, including 'the easiest way to kill a person', 'how many years for killing a person', and '16 steps to kill someone and not get caught'.
He also looked into making pipe bombs and purchased an air rifle, pellets, knives, and latex gloves used during the attack.
Before the murders, Saunders left a letter hinting at suicidal thoughts, stating, 'You know you are messed up when you think like I do,' and expressing admiration for ISIS.
Following the killings, he sent a hostile message to his father, claiming responsibility for the murders.
Saunders had not been diagnosed with mental health problems but was experiencing significant emotional distress at the time.
The court detailed his controlling and violent behavior during his relationship with Zoe Morgan, including an episode where he grabbed her neck.
Morgan had previously told her father about an incident of assault during their relationship.
The court also revealed that Saunders had contacted Simmons on Facebook, threatening to kill him and sending abusive messages to Morgan.
Saunders was due to be sentenced following the trial.
