CARE SUPERVISOR REMOVED FROM REGISTER FOR ASSAULTING RESIDENT IN DUNKELD
A Perthshire care home supervisor named Andrew Robertson, who worked at the Corbenic Camphill Community near Dunkeld, has been dismissed following serious allegations of abuse.It was alleged that Robertson physically assaulted a resident, referred to as AA, by seizing and striking him and repeatedly bending his fingers back in an attempt to calm him down.
These incidents are believed to have occurred around April 4 or 5, 2016.
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) has removed Robertson from its register for supervisors in a care home service for adults after concluding that there was sufficient evidence of his misconduct.
The SSSC described his behavior as "a misuse of your power and position as a social service worker" that "caused, or was likely to cause fear, distress and alarm to AA," and noted that such conduct was "serious" and violated the fundamental tenets of the profession.
Robertson admitted to the allegations and accepted his removal from the register, which took effect on January 6 this year.
The decision notice highlighted that Robertson had failed to show insight into why his behavior was unacceptable and recognized the harm it could cause.
The community and representatives from Corbenic Camphill declined to comment on the matter.
