Andrew MacKinnon Child Sexual Abuser in Dundee

During a police raid on a Dundee residence, officers found child abuse files stored on the mobile phone of a man, leading to significant legal proceedings.

Andrew MacKinnon, aged 34, was spared imprisonment after admitting to the possession of such illegal content from April 2023 through March 2025.

He appeared in Dundee Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to charges after authorities uncovered more than a dozen files—some classified at the highest level of depravity—on his phone.

It was also confirmed that copies of these files were stored on another device, and evidence showed that MacKinnon used the Kik messaging app to receive the abusive material.

His lawyer, Kyra Strachan, stated that MacKinnon, who now lives in Bridge of Earn, struggled with feelings of loneliness.

She explained, “He was frightened and concerned about what he was viewing and insists that he does not have any sexual interest in such content.” She added that he had completely stopped using the messaging apps and accepted responsibility for his actions, feeling shame for his behaviour.

Before his court appearance, MacKinnon completed an eight-week course run by the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, an organization focused on the prevention of child sex abuse.

Sheriff Paul Ralph imposed an 18-month supervision order involving social services and also mandated that MacKinnon register as a sex offender for the same duration.

He is also required to follow a set of strict conduct guidelines.
