ANDREW MACKAY AND NICOLE LOGAN BRUTALIZE DOG IN BROXBURN AND LANCASHIRE HORROR

In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, Andrew Mackay, aged 32, and Nicole Logan, aged 30, from Broxburn, have been found guilty of inflicting severe injuries on a defenseless dog named Bonzo. The horrific abuse took place at their former residence on Clarence Avenue, Knott-End-On-Sea, Poulton-Le-Fylde, Lancashire, before they relocated back to Scotland. The incident has shocked the community and prompted a serious investigation into the extent of the cruelty involved.

Andrew Mackay, born on June 1, 1991, residing at 59 Laing Gardens, Broxburn EH52 6XU, was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison after being convicted of animal abuse and neglect. The court heard that between September and December 2019, Mackay subjected Bonzo to a series of brutal attacks, resulting in injuries so severe that the dog ultimately died during veterinary attempts to save him. Mackay claimed to a veterinarian that he had tripped over Bonzo while doing the dishes just days before Christmas in 2019, but evidence presented in court painted a far darker picture.

The veterinarian's examination revealed that Bonzo had sustained more than 25 fractured ribs, a ruptured windpipe, fractures around his eye socket and cheekbone, and injuries to his face. These injuries were not the result of a single incident but occurred on at least four separate occasions, each causing immense pain and suffering to the animal. The severity and pattern of injuries indicated repeated blunt force trauma, which could not have been caused by a simple fall or accident, as Mackay had claimed.

On December 23, 2019, Mackay took Bonzo to a veterinary clinic, claiming the dog had fallen on him and suffered a punctured lung while running through bushes. Despite efforts to resuscitate Bonzo, the dog tragically died during treatment. The vet, suspecting abuse, reported the case to the RSPCA. Inspector Will Lamping, along with Lancashire Police officers, visited Mackay’s address as part of the investigation. During questioning, Nicole Logan stated that her partner had told her Bonzo was injured when he received a punctured lung while running through bushes, and that she was unaware of any abuse.

Later, Mackay contacted the RSPCA himself, claiming he had injured Bonzo by standing on him and falling over while doing the dishes, with Logan at work at the time. He also mentioned that the dog had old injuries from a previous incident involving bushes about a month and a half earlier. However, independent veterinary experts testified that the injuries could not have been caused by a fall but were consistent with repeated physical assaults. They confirmed that Bonzo had been subjected to blunt force trauma on multiple occasions, with some injuries showing signs of healing, indicating ongoing abuse.

Further examination of Bonzo’s medical history revealed that he had been taken to the same veterinary clinic in October 2019, after Mackay claimed the dog had a blister on his eye from running through bushes. The vet found additional broken ribs at that time, reinforcing the pattern of repeated injuries. An independent veterinary expert explained that the numerous rib fractures and facial injuries were consistent with deliberate, violent assaults, and that at least four separate episodes of trauma had occurred between September and December 2019.

In court, the magistrates described the attacks as “barbaric and torturous,” emphasizing that the injuries were both prolonged and deliberate. They condemned the defendants for their failure to seek veterinary care for Bonzo, despite being aware of his suffering. Inspector Lamping expressed his distress, stating, “The injuries caused to Bonzo were some of the worst I’ve seen. The image of his broken body will stay with me for a long time.”

As part of their sentences, Andrew Mackay was ordered to serve 18 weeks in jail, pay costs and charges totaling £2,128, and was banned from keeping any animals for ten years. Nicole Logan received a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months, along with 100 hours of unpaid work, a curfew, and costs of £328. She was also banned from keeping dogs for ten years, with the ban set to expire in August 2031. The case has highlighted the importance of animal welfare and the need for vigilance against cruelty in all communities.
