MAN JAILED FOR PERSISTENT STALKING AND HARASSMENT OF EX-PARTNER IN HEYWOOD
A 37-year-old man named Andrew Gill has been sentenced to 14 months in custody after a series of serious breaches of a non-molestation order.Gill's conduct involved persistently contacting his ex-partner over three weeks, despite being explicitly told not to do so.
He made multiple attempts to contact her via phone and social media, including following her in her car when she drove away and making threatening remarks about ongoing family court proceedings.
Gill also engaged in calls where he laughed and made breathing noises down the phone at her, causing her to feel frightened and anxious.
The victim stated that she had to change her number three times and alter her behavior to escape him, feeling she was left 'sick of him' and just wanting to be left alone.
Gill was also found to have breached a non-molestation order by following her in her vehicle and trying to add her on Snapchat.
During a police interview, he denied some of the calls but admitted to contacting her on September 21, claiming he was on his way to a course and saw her in her car incidentally.
His defense argued he was remorseful and felt unheard by the family courts.
Judge Savill emphasized the seriousness and persistence of his breaches, noting that Gill had previously been sentenced for similar offenses and was currently under a suspended sentence in Northern Ireland for violence against the same woman.
Gill was sentenced to 14 months in prison and received a 10-year restraining order to protect his ex-partner from further harassment.
