ANDREW GILL'S SHOCKING ANIMAL ABUSE IN KINGSTON UPON HULL: 20-YEAR BAN AND SUSPENDED PRISON SENTENCE

Andrew Gill, a known repeat offender from Kingston upon Hull, has once again found himself at the center of a serious animal welfare case. Born around 1964 and residing at Downing Grove, Hull HU9 3SY, Gill was convicted in 2013 for neglecting and mistreating animals, a pattern of behavior that has persisted over the years.

In a disturbing incident, Gill was found to have left his four dogs without access to basic necessities such as food, water, or bedding. This neglect was a clear violation of animal welfare standards and court orders designed to prevent such cruelty. The breach of a disqualification order, which had previously been imposed on him, was a significant factor in his latest legal troubles.

Gill’s history with animal cruelty is well-documented. In 2012, he was banned from keeping animals along with his former partner, Suzanna Falconer, after a series of neglectful acts that resulted in the suffering and death of multiple animals. The court heard that Gill and Falconer caused unnecessary suffering to 13 rats, which died of starvation, and failed to meet the welfare needs of three ferrets and a rabbit. Additionally, they caused undue suffering to a hedgehog, further highlighting their disregard for animal well-being.

RSPCA inspector Hannah Bryer provided insight into the ongoing issues with Gill’s care of animals. She stated, “Throughout the duration of the previous proceedings, Mr Gill was given advice, assistance, and warning notices to improve the welfare of his remaining animals. After he was banned, he failed to follow the court order and continued keeping animals. Mr Gill has proved he is unable to care for animals properly, even when given extensive guidance. He has shown a complete disregard for the court order and to the wellbeing of his pets.”

In September 2012, authorities, including RSPCA inspectors and police, raided Gill’s residence. Upon entry, Gill protested, saying, “You’re not taking my pets, you are not touching the snake or the fish, no way.” Inside the property, they discovered a collection of animals and a neglected environment. There were 20 fish, a corn snake, two Staffordshire bull terriers named Zane and Patch, two terriers called Dufus and Meg, two cats, and six kittens.

Inspectors observed that Dufus and Meg were confined to the kitchen and had been eating out of the trash bin, indicating neglect. Zane and Patch were found in the garden, which was littered with broken glass jars, rusty tins, and exposed metal chair springs, creating a hazardous environment for the animals. Gill admitted to breaching his disqualification order and failing to meet the welfare needs of his dogs, further confirming his ongoing neglect.

Gill’s history of animal cruelty extends beyond this incident. In 2007, he expressed devastation after an arson attack destroyed his shed, which housed 300 rats, along with two rabbits, two hamsters, two guinea pigs, and three hedgehogs. This tragic event underscored the long-standing issues with his care for animals.

In court, Gill was sentenced to a 12-week prison term, suspended for one year, and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. He was also fined £250 in costs. Most notably, he received a ban from keeping animals for 20 years, a restriction that will remain in effect until April 2033. This case highlights the ongoing concerns about animal welfare and the importance of strict enforcement of court orders to prevent further cruelty.
