2000: BOYS' SEX ATTACKER JAILED
An individual from Malvern has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of sexual offences involving two 14-year-old boys during a summer camp stay.Andrew Donald, who is employed as a tree surgeon by Worcester City Council, deceived the teenagers into removing their clothing under the guise of medical examinations and then engaged in inappropriate touching.
A jury took over six hours to deliberate before convicting him of two counts of indecent assault.
Judge Ian Morris told Donald, aged 34 and residing on Harbinger Avenue in Malvern, that he had breached his trusted role as a healthcare provider for the youth group.
The judge described Donald’s actions as driven by personal sexual satisfaction.
Donald, a former soldier and Bosnia veteran, was detained following complaints from the boys last year.
One victim, who was sick with the flu, was subjected to water treatment to reduce his temperature, then had his private parts squeezed under the pretense of a medical test.
The other, recovering from a groin strain, was told a sperm test was necessary.
Prosecutor Andrew Lockhart indicated that both boys, who did not know each other, provided police accounts that closely resembled each other.
The victims were particularly susceptible, being away from their families for the first time.
He noted that Donald, a father, was held in high regard due to his community standing and exploited his medical knowledge to manipulate the boys.
During proceedings, Donald’s defense lawyer, Jonathan Ray, termed the incidents as a “hiccup” in an otherwise clean record, acknowledging Donald’s military service and diligent work history.
Mr.
Ray also confirmed he would prevent his client from associating with youth organizations in the future.
Donald was found guilty after two trials; the first jury did not reach a verdict.
Before the second trial, the prosecution reported that a third boy who had made allegations was no longer able to testify due to mental health issues, having damaged his home and assaulted his mother.
Judge Morris concluded that the verdict was correct and mandated a ten-year registration as a sex offender for Donald.
