ANDREW DAVISON'S BRUTAL ATTACK IN SWANSEA: EX-PARTNER STABBED AND THROTTLED IN TOWNHILL

A disturbing incident unfolded in Swansea when Andrew Davison, a 32-year-old man, violently assaulted his former girlfriend in her flat located in the Townhill area. The court heard that the assault was triggered by a dispute over Valium tablets, which Davison believed his ex-partner had taken without his permission. The confrontation escalated rapidly, revealing a pattern of volatile behavior linked to his ongoing struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues.

According to court proceedings, Davison and the victim had maintained an on-and-off relationship for approximately nine months. Although they were not together at the time of the attack in May, Davison had gone to her flat in Townhill. His agitation was fueled by his suspicion that she had taken his Valium while he was asleep, which he believed was a betrayal. This suspicion caused him to lose control, leading to a violent outburst that left the woman with serious injuries.

During the assault, Davison physically restrained her by grabbing her around the neck and pinning her down. In a further act of violence, he smashed a cider bottle and used the broken glass as a weapon, holding the jagged edge against his own throat and her neck. The situation escalated when he stabbed her in the thigh with the broken bottle, causing a significant wound that required medical attention. Throughout the attack, Davison reportedly blamed her, stating that it was her fault for taking his medication. It was only after he found and ingested his misplaced Valium pills that he appeared to calm down.

Police officers arrived at the scene while Davison was sitting on the steps outside the flat. He was detained after passing out en route to the hospital. The victim sustained a gash to her thigh, which necessitated medical treatment to prevent infection and further complications. In police interviews, Davison claimed that he was involved in an argument with his ex and insisted that she was the aggressor, asserting that he only grabbed her arms during the altercation. However, evidence of his mental health history and prior convictions for assault and bodily harm painted a different picture.

Davison has a criminal record that includes convictions for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault. He admitted to the charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm and possession of Valium. The court sentenced him to 12 months in prison, with the first half to be served in custody and the remainder on licence. The judge described the attack as “terrifying” for the victim and highlighted that Davison’s attempt to shift blame onto her is a common feature in domestic violence cases, underscoring the seriousness of his actions and the impact on the victim’s safety and well-being.
