ANDREW COOP FROM TIMPERLEY SENT TO PRISON FOR ONLINE SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO TEEN GIRLS IN THE NORTH-EAST AND SOUTH-EAST
In a case that has shocked the local community and beyond, Andrew Coop, a 26-year-old man from Timperley, Greater Manchester, was sentenced to prison after engaging in disturbing online sexual activities with two underage girls from different parts of the country. The offences, which involved manipulation and exploitation through internet chat platforms, have left lasting scars on the victims and their families.Coop lured two young girls, both aged 14, into performing sexual acts for him via webcam after meeting them in various internet chatrooms. Despite the girls living at opposite ends of the country—one in the north-east and the other in the south-east—they both fell prey to Coop’s manipulative tactics. Both victims sent him intimate photographs and videos, and in some instances, performed sexual acts on camera for him, specifically on Skype. The disturbing nature of his actions was compounded by his expressions of affection, as he told one of the victims that he loved her.
The abuse was uncovered through different means. One of the girls’ phones was confiscated by her teacher during class, revealing explicit messages from Coop, including a message that read, “nip into the bedroom and take a picture of your boobs.” This discovery led to further investigation. The second victim’s abuse was uncovered when her mother, while scrolling through her phone, found lewd messages from “Andy,” indicating that Coop had performed sex acts on Skype in front of her.
It was revealed that Coop, who had been in a relationship for four years, had suggested to both girls that they meet in a hotel to have sex. These proposals, along with the explicit content exchanged, highlighted the predatory nature of his conduct.
During the sentencing hearing, it was disclosed that both families had been profoundly affected by Coop’s actions. The girl from the south of England, in particular, had been deeply impacted, with her life spiraling out of control after the offences came to light. She had run away from home, stopped attending school, and was now receiving counselling after engaging in self-harming behaviors. Her mother expressed her anguish, stating, “He’s ruined part of my daughter’s childhood.”
Judge Michael Leeming, presiding over the case, rejected the defence’s plea for Coop to serve his sentence in the community. He emphasized that Coop should have known better and that his actions had caused significant harm. Coop pleaded guilty to multiple charges of engaging a child in sexual activity.
As a result, he was sentenced to 34 months in prison. The judge concluded his remarks by highlighting the unfortunate coincidence that both victims, living at opposite ends of the country, had the misfortune of coming into contact with Coop through the Skype and Kik apps, which facilitated his predatory behavior.
