BRIXTON MAN JAILED FOR 29 YEARS FOR MURDERING WIFE AND BLAMING SON
A man convicted of killing his wife before setting their home on fire to cover his tracks and accuse his teenage son has been sentenced to 29 years in prison.Amidu Koroma, aged 48, gunned down Mariam Kamara at their Brixton residence in south London in January 2022.
Judge Rebecca Poulet KC described the offense as "particularly cruel and unpleasant," especially because Koroma falsely implicated his innocent son, then 17 years old.
Additionally, Koroma was sentenced to seven years concurrently for arson.
During the hearing, it was revealed that Koroma, who had a child with another woman, was afraid his wife might leave him for a man she had become close to in Sierra Leone.
His motive for the murder stemmed from concerns over her plan to travel to Sierra Leone, which he sought to prevent.
The court outlined a history of abuse and threats, noting that the victim’s son was asleep at the time of the attack.
Ms Kamara, a community nurse, was stabbed four times with a kitchen knife while she was sleeping.
Koroma falsely accused his son Ishmael of the crime, claiming he was mentally disturbed and mimicking a scene from the Netflix series You.
The prosecution described the relationship as "toxic" and acknowledged that Ms Kamara was a caring and responsible mother.
The family described their profound grief and the deep impact her loss had on them.
The court found that Koroma’s actions—driven by his fear of her leaving—were premeditated and executed through stabbing and arson to destroy evidence.
The judge emphasized the background of threats and abuse and noted that the victim’s son was present in the house during the incident.
