DUNDEE OPTOMETRIST FINED FOR STALKING ESTRANGED WIFE WITH TRACKING DEVICE
Ameen Sattar was observed affixing an Apple AirTag to his separated wife’s car with a glue gun, an act the court described as clumsy and ineffective for tracking her.The vehicle owner received a notification on her iPhone indicating that her location had been detected by the AirTag.
Upon inspecting her car, she heard a beeping noise coming from the rear bumper and discovered a green tissue packet glued underneath, which contained the AirTag.
The device’s serial number linked to a phone number matching the last four digits of Sattar’s contact information.
Sattar, who works as the lead optometrist at Vision Right opticians, declined to comment when approached by police.
He admitted to guilty plea for behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by placing and hiding the tracking device on his wife’s vehicle on March 19, 2023.
Sattar explained that he was suspicious about his wife’s location that morning and used the AirTag for that purpose.
His legal representative described his actions as a reckless mistake, and Sattar, who stated that he supports his wife and reports no ongoing issues since the incident, received a fine of £370 from the court.
