ALLEN MEREDITH FROM CHIPPING NORTON SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ABUSE IN SURREY AND BUSHEY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities, Allen Meredith, a 72-year-old man from Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, was convicted of heinous sexual offenses committed during the 1980s and 1990s.The abuse took place at two different educational institutions in Surrey and Bushey, where Meredith held positions of authority that he exploited to carry out his crimes.
Meredith served as a housemaster at The Royal Alexandra and Albert School located in Reigate during the 1980s.
In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the dormitories and the welfare of the students residing there.
However, instead of fulfilling his duties ethically, he used his position to manipulate and lure young boys into his private quarters.
Once inside, he subjected them to a series of sexual assaults, actions that have now been classified as horrific and deeply damaging.
Following his tenure at Reigate, Meredith moved on to work at the Royal Caledonian School in Bushey, a residential facility dedicated to Scottish orphans.
This institution has since closed, and the premises are now occupied by the Purcell School.
It was at this second location that Meredith continued his pattern of abuse, preying on vulnerable boys under his care.
The full extent of Meredith’s crimes only came to light in 2016, when a courageous victim decided to come forward and report the abuse.
This brave act prompted an investigation led by Detective Constable Jason Tinsey, who meticulously gathered evidence and built a case against Meredith.
The revelations prompted a police inquiry that uncovered the disturbing details of the abuse spanning over a decade.
On Wednesday, at St Albans Crown Court, Meredith faced justice for his actions.
He pleaded guilty to four serious charges, including buggery of a male under the age of 14, indecent assault on boys under 14, indecency with or towards boys under 14, and attempted indecent assault on a boy under 14.
The court sentenced him to seven years in prison, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
Additionally, Meredith has been ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.
This case highlights the importance of vigilance and the bravery of victims who come forward to seek justice, even decades after the abuse occurred.
