ALLAN PETRIE FROM LEVEN SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CRUELTY TO HIS DOG JACK

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Leven, Allan Petrie, born on 28 August 1973 and residing at 37 White Avenue, was found guilty of heinous acts of animal cruelty involving his beloved pet dog, Jack. The incident, which took place in November 2020, revealed a deeply disturbing pattern of behavior that culminated in the tragic death of the ten-year-old Golden Retriever.

According to court records and reports, Petrie deliberately caused unnecessary suffering to Jack by submerging the dog’s head in water at his home. The post-mortem examination confirmed that Jack had drowned after ingesting water, but further investigations uncovered additional brutal injuries. The veterinarian’s report indicated that Jack had also suffered blunt force trauma, suggesting that the dog was subjected to physical violence prior to his death.

The case took a further sinister turn when Petrie sent a series of shocking and offensive messages to his former partner. In these texts, he openly admitted to the murder of Jack, stating, “I’ve just committed murder.” He also made threatening and obscene remarks, including, “Av put it oot his miserable f* life. And am next coming get your fucking collie,” accompanied by a smiling face emoji. These messages not only revealed his callous attitude towards the animal but also included a disturbing joke about harming his ex-girlfriend’s collie, which was shown in images circulating online.

Petrie, who is employed as an HGV driver with Kiely Bros, pleaded guilty to the charges in a letter submitted to Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court. His admission detailed the timeline of events between November 8 and 17, 2020, during which he caused Jack’s suffering. The court heard that Petrie’s actions were deliberate and malicious, leading to the dog’s death in a manner that caused significant distress to animal welfare advocates.

During the court proceedings, Sheriff James Williamson expressed his shock and disbelief upon reading Petrie’s guilty plea. He stated he was “totally astonished” by the nature of the case. The sheriff deferred sentencing until July 1, 2021, to allow for background reports and for Petrie to appear in person. The court also ordered further investigations, including a veterinary report on Jack’s health prior to his death.

Subsequently, on August 9, 2021, the sentencing was postponed again to September 2021. The court had previously warned Petrie that a custodial sentence was a real possibility, especially after authorities had to exhume Jack’s body for further examination. The post-mortem confirmed not only drowning but also revealed signs of blunt force trauma, indicating physical abuse.
