ALLAN LAW FROM FAVERSHAM SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR RAPE AND COERCIVE CONTROL IN KENT

In a case that has shocked the community of Faversham and the wider Kent area, Allan Law has been found guilty of a series of serious criminal offenses involving a woman he subjected to prolonged abuse and control.

The disturbing case highlights the extent of his violent and manipulative behavior over several months, which culminated in a conviction that will see him serve a significant prison sentence.

Law, a resident of Faversham, was described by investigators as a jealous and controlling individual who inflicted both physical and sexual violence upon his victim.

His actions included keeping her confined in a cupboard, a form of imprisonment that underscores the severity of his coercive tactics.

He also monitored her social media activity closely, exerting oppressive control over her daily interactions and movements.

Evidence revealed that Law made more than 60 phone calls to her from prison, demonstrating his persistent attempts to maintain influence and contact despite legal restrictions.

The harassment was relentless, spanning several months and severely impacting the victim’s ability to communicate with friends, family, or colleagues.

Law’s controlling behavior extended to restricting her freedom of movement and physically assaulting her, further demonstrating his intent to dominate and intimidate her.

Despite the victim obtaining a restraining order to protect herself, Law repeatedly breached this legal safeguard by making phone calls and visiting her in defiance of the court’s orders.

The situation escalated in February 2023 when police officers responded to reports of an assault at Law’s residence.

During the arrest, officers found him physically assaulting the victim and preventing her from leaving his home.

Law’s conduct during detention was also aggressive; he assaulted an officer, spat in a police vehicle, and was charged with multiple offenses related to these actions.

It was during this period that the victim disclosed that Law had raped her, adding a deeply disturbing dimension to the case.

While in custody, Law continued his attempts to contact the victim, making an additional 63 efforts to reach her.

His legal proceedings saw him plead guilty to several charges, including multiple breaches of the restraining order, assaulting an emergency worker, and criminal damage to police property.

However, he maintained his innocence on other charges, leading to a trial at Maidstone Crown Court.

At the court hearing, Law was convicted of multiple serious offenses.

These included rape, coercive and controlling behavior, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and false imprisonment.

The judge sentenced him on July 29 to an extended term of 14 years in prison, with an additional three years on license.

Furthermore, Law is now subject to an indefinite restraining order and is required to register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.

Detective Constable Lucy Baker described Law as a “violent bully” who used threats and intimidation to dominate his victim.

She praised her for her bravery in cooperating with the investigation, which was crucial in securing the conviction.

Detective Constable Bethany Honess emphasized the importance of reporting violence against women and girls, encouraging victims to seek help and reminding the public that support services are available to assist those in similar situations.
