MAN JAILED AFTER RAPING WOMAN
A man has been convicted of raping a woman in Dorset Gardens, Brighton, after a trial held at Brighton Crown Court.Alieu George, aged 45 and of no fixed residence, was also convicted of sexual assault by penetration.
Despite denying the charges, he was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday, December 17.
The court was informed that bystanders had observed a man and a woman together in the park area at approximately 9:05 am on Sunday, June 22 of the same year.
The woman appeared distressed, and shortly afterward, witnesses saw them on the ground with the man positioned on top of her.
Three witnesses recognized the woman's distress and contacted the police.
When officers arrived, they found her in a distraught state and George lying nearby.
He claimed during questioning that the woman was his girlfriend.
The 34-year-old woman told police that she had gone out for drinks after work.
George reportedly approached her, making excuses to separate her from her group to get her alone.
He then attempted to sexually assault her repeatedly before taking her to Dorset Gardens, where he proceeded to rape her.
George was arrested on suspicion of rape and taken into custody.
He was subsequently charged with the offense on the same day.
After the court’s guilty verdicts, George was remanded in custody to await sentencing scheduled for March 10, 2026.
—————————————————————————————————— MAN JAILED FOR RAPING WOMAN IN DORSET GARDENS, BRIGHTON A man has been jailed for 12 years for raping a woman in a park.
Alieu George, 46, of no fixed address, was found guilty of rape and sexual assault by penetration following a trial last December.
The court heard that members of the public had spotted a man and a woman together in the park area at 9.05am on June 22, 2025.
The woman looked distressed and shortly later, they were on the ground with the man lying on top of her.
Three witnesses recognised the victim’s distress and called police and when officers responded to the scene, they found her distraught and George lying next to her.
He told them the woman was his girlfriend.
The 35-year-old told police that she had gone out for drinks after work and George had approached her and made excuses to remove her from a group of people she was with to get her alone.
He then made repeated attempts to sexually assault her while leading her to Dorset Gardens where he raped her.
George was arrested on suspicion of committing rape and taken into custody.
He was later charged with the offence that day.
Following the guilty verdicts, George was remanded in custody and appeared for sentencing on Tuesday, March 10, at Brighton Crown Court.
He was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment, comprising 12 years in custody and a further three years on extended licence.
An indefinite restraining order was also imposed.
Detective Constable Daisy Alden, the officer in the case, said: “The victim has shown immense courage and determination in this investigation.
“The streets of Brighton and Sussex are safer now he will remain behind bars.
“We are committed to ending male violence against women.
